Sony's Next PlayStation State Of Play Coming This Thursday, Followed By A Japan And Asia-Dedicated Showcase

Sony has officially announced that its next PlayStation State of Play broadcast will take place on Thursday, September 3, featuring updates from first-party and third-party developers. The main presentation will conclude with an in-depth look at Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, and will be immediately followed by a dedicated State of Play Japan broadcast highlighting upcoming titles from Asian developers.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially scheduled its next major digital broadcast, confirming that a new PlayStation State of Play presentation will air on Thursday, September 3. The announcement aligns with the company's historical pattern of hosting major showcases during the month of September, although this year's iteration is scheduled to take place slightly earlier in the month than the broadcasts held in the previous two years. The upcoming event was also preceded by online speculation, as industry insider NateTheHate had recently leaked the existence of the presentation on the social media platform X.

According to an official blog post from Sony, the upcoming State of Play will feature a variety of updates and new announcements. The content will span projects currently in development at PlayStation Studios as well as titles coming from various third-party partners. While the platform holder has not disclosed the exact runtime for the main broadcast, it has confirmed that the event will conclude with an extended, in-depth look at the highly anticipated world of Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII: Revelation.

Immediately following the conclusion of the primary State of Play, Sony will transition into a secondary broadcast titled State of Play Japan. This regional showcase will be hosted by the prominent Japanese voice actor Yuki Kaji and is designed to focus specifically on software originating from developers across Japan and Asia. Viewers tuning into this subsequent segment can expect to see fresh gameplay footage, dedicated announcements, and additional details regarding regional projects, though Sony has similarly withheld the specific duration of this second stream.

Both of the consecutive broadcasts will be streamed live and made accessible to global audiences through the official PlayStation channels on YouTube and Twitch. For viewers planning to watch the events live, the main State of Play is scheduled to begin at 6:00 AM Pacific Time, 9:00 AM Eastern Time, 2:00 PM British Summer Time, and 3:00 PM Central European Summer Time on Thursday afternoon.

The timing of the presentation comes just ahead of Sony's most significant software release for the month, Marvel's Wolverine, which is scheduled to launch on September 15. Because the highly anticipated title has received extensive promotional coverage over the last several months and is so close to its official release date, industry observers note that Sony may not need to dedicate significant broadcast time to the game, outside of perhaps a final pre-launch trailer to secure remaining pre-orders.

Instead, the showcase provides Sony with an ideal platform to share progress reports on several other high-profile projects currently in development. Among the first-party and partner titles that could potentially make an appearance are God of War Laufey, Until Dawn 2, the upcoming Ghost of Yotei expansion, and the highly enigmatic project known as Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Additionally, the broadcast is expected to reserve space for a diverse selection of independent and mid-tier video games that typically benefit from the high-profile exposure of a State of Play event.
