Strange Scaffold Announces Gods With Badges, A Tactics Game Where You Decide When To Switch Off Your Bodycam
Strange Scaffold has revealed Gods With Badges, an upcoming narrative tactics title launching on PC in 2027. Set in a futuristic dystopian city, the game explores law enforcement authority through turn-based encounters, open-hub investigations, and a body camera toggle mechanism that alters available choices.
Development studio Strange Scaffold, previously recognized for projects such as I Am Your Beast and El Paso, Elsewhere, has officially revealed its next title, Gods With Badges. The game is framed as a narrative tactics experience centered around the ultimate authority officers wield regarding life and death. The initial announcement took place on October 8 during the Triple-I Initiative presentation, confirming that a PC version is currently slated to launch via Steam in 2027.
The central storyline centers on Harrow McClellan, a fallen police officer who is reassigned to her initial duty station. Her return comes long after the initial controversy that ruined her career has passed into widespread law enforcement legend. Players will navigate both conversational choices and tactical, turn-based scenarios, with every action offering a chance to lean into her notorious standing or attempt to transcend her past reputation.
Gameplay unfolds across the expansive open hubs of Scarhelm, a bleak future metropolis. Players are tasked with exploring side streets for clues, following up on citizen complaints, and confiscating illegal goods. The methods used to execute arrests, apply physical force, and select dialogue prompts directly impact how McClellan relates to her fellow officers, members of the community, and regional political bodies.
When confrontations intensify, the experience shifts directly into an isometric tactical combat system. Within these turn-based firefights, players are required to navigate cover, attempt hostage rescues, and dictate their chosen level of force. A key mechanical twist permits players to temporarily deactivate McClellan's body camera. Shutting off the feed grants access to distinct dialogue paths and tactical options, though it permanently removes any official public recording of subsequent actions.
Gods With Badges initially started development under the name Hard Justice as an unreleased project by strategy developer Artificer. Strange Scaffold acquired the foundational materials and assets, reinterpreting the concept through its own design philosophy. The endeavor falls under Project Share, a collaborative framework created by Strange Scaffold last year that promotes technology exchanges among studios to foster sustainable production practices, a program that previously yielded Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 1: Re-Raptored.
Studio head Xalavier Nelson Jr. described the game as one of the most ambitious undertakings in the company's history, pointing to its non-traditional origin and narrative aims. He expressed gratitude to Artificer for transferring the project's framework, noting that the team is taking the subject matter seriously to deliver an intentional and striking experience. Additionally, the game's original score is being composed by Kris Kirk, who previously crafted music for Space Warlord Baby Trading Simulator.
