'obsession' Breakout Inde Navarrette Finds Her Next Big Sci-Fi Thriller

Following her standout performance in the horror hit Obsession, actress Inde Navarrette has secured her next major role in Apple Original Films' upcoming science-fiction thriller, The Waffle House Index. Produced by Plan B Entertainment, the film will feature Navarrette as both the lead actress and an executive producer in a bizarre story involving a hostage situation, natural disasters, and extraterrestrials.

Actress Inde Navarrette, who recently gained widespread recognition for her terrifying portrayal of Nikki in Curry Barker's breakout horror film Obsession, has officially found her next major cinematic project. Navarrette is set to star in and executive produce a new science-fiction thriller titled The Waffle House Index. The project is being developed by Apple Original Films, with Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment handling production duties. The Hollywood Reporter first shared the news of her dual role as both the lead star and an executive producer on the film.

The upcoming film's title is derived from a real-world informal metric used by emergency management officials to determine the severity of a storm or hurricane based on the operational status of local Waffle House restaurants. However, the movie plans to take this concept in a far more bizarre and chaotic direction. Navarrette will portray a restaurant waitress whose shift goes from bad to worse when an armed individual enters the establishment, triggering a wild chain of events.

According to early details about the plot, the narrative quickly escalates far beyond a simple restaurant robbery. The storyline is set to incorporate a massive flood, predatory crocodiles, a nuclear detonation, a hidden underground bunker located directly beneath the diner, and an encounter with extraterrestrial beings. This highly unusual blend of disaster, survival, and science-fiction elements promises a chaotic and fast-paced thriller.

This announcement comes after intense speculation regarding Navarrette's career trajectory following the massive success of Obsession. The actress had previously been linked to several high-profile Hollywood projects, with reports circulating that she had met with directors for major upcoming films, including Michael Mann's Heat 2 and Marvel Studios' highly anticipated X-Men cinematic reboot.

The Waffle House Index is just one of several projects keeping Navarrette busy. She has already completed filming on Invertigo, a thriller centered around a group of teenagers trapped on a roller coaster. Her attachment to Apple's new sci-fi project further solidifies her rising status in the industry, showcasing her ability to transition from psychological horror to high-concept genre films.

For Plan B Entertainment, led by Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner, this film marks the continuation of a strong working relationship with Apple. The two companies previously collaborated on the upcoming racing drama F1, starring Pitt. Plan B's recent portfolio also includes the horror title Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, and the company is currently preparing to begin production on an adaptation of The Bell Jar, directed by Sarah Polley.
