Mortal Shell 2 Update Fixes The Game’s Stingy Economy

Developer Cold Symmetry has released a major Week 1 Update for Mortal Shell 2, targeting the action-RPG's restrictive economy by making rare upgrade currencies more abundant. The patch also introduces a shell respec feature, buffs heavy weapons, and implements numerous bug fixes, though it is currently exclusive to PC players.

Developer Cold Symmetry has deployed a massive Week 1 Update for its newly released souls-like action-RPG, Mortal Shell 2 [1.1]. The patch, which launched on August 29, 2026, introduces sweeping changes to the game's progression systems, weapon balance, and overall stability. The primary focus of the update is a comprehensive overhaul of the game's economy, which players previously criticized for being overly restrictive and punishing.

Prior to the update, players found themselves severely limited by the scarcity of Glimpses and Tarcores, two essential currencies required to upgrade character shells and Tarstones respectively. This scarcity discouraged players from experimenting with different playstyles, often forcing them into New Game+ runs just to experience the maximum potential of various builds. The new patch resolves this issue by making both resources infinitely farmable and much easier to acquire during a single playthrough.

To alleviate the Tarcore shortage, Cold Symmetry has introduced a new class of items called Fragile Tarstones. These items lose durability as they are used and eventually break, yielding valuable Tarcores upon destruction. Similarly, players can now obtain Glimpses by shattering new Glimpse Stones, which wear down as enemies are defeated. Additionally, players can exchange collected Ova at the Marrow Keep's Gloom Siphon to receive Glimpses, though Mini-Beacons will no longer reward this currency.

The update also introduces a highly requested respec feature through a new item called Mether's Severance. By handing this item to the shell keeper, Zhirelle, players can sever their bond with a specific shell. This process resets the shell entirely and refunds all invested Glimpses, allowing players to freely reallocate their hard-earned resources. Furthermore, the in-game merchant Merrick now stocks both Glimpse Stones and Tarcores, which periodically replenish as players advance through the game.

Beyond economic adjustments, the Week 1 Update delivers a substantial balance pass for the game's arsenal, specifically targeting heavy weapons to compensate for their slow attack speeds. The Obsidian Hammer now deals significantly more damage, and The Great Martyr's Blade received a retroactive damage buff that was mistakenly omitted from the previous patch. Overall, heavy weapons across the board have received increases to both their damage output and poise.

A multitude of gameplay refinements and bug fixes are also packed into the update. Enemy tracking and magnetism have been toned down, and foes will no longer pursue players indefinitely. Player riposte damage now scales dynamically with enemy health, ensuring parries remain viable in late-game areas, New Game+, and Night Mode. Numerous bosses, including the Monolith and the Lost Child, have received visual polish, hitbox adjustments, and timing fixes to make their encounters fairer and more readable.

Currently, this major update is only available for the PC version of Mortal Shell 2. Cold Symmetry explained that console certification processes take longer, meaning PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players will have to wait a bit longer to receive these adjustments. While no specific release date was provided for the console patch, the development team has assured players they are working to bring the update to consoles as quickly as possible.
