Team Fortress 2 Update Released
Valve has deployed a fresh update for Team Fortress 2, resolving several gameplay exploits, adjusting map-specific rules, and applying various community-sourced visual and audio fixes. The patch, which installs automatically upon restarting the game client, addresses issues with character movement speeds, contract objectives, and map timers.
Valve has officially rolled out a new software update for its long-running multiplayer shooter, Team Fortress 2. The patch is designed to deploy automatically for all players once they restart their game clients. This latest update introduces a wide range of adjustments, focusing heavily on fixing exploits, refining map-specific mechanics, and integrating several visual and audio corrections, some of which were developed by the game's active community.
Among the most notable gameplay fixes is the resolution of an exploit that gave certain classes an unintended advantage. Specifically, a bug that allowed players using the Heavy and Sniper classes to move at their maximum movement speeds while actively aiming has been successfully patched. This fix ensures that the intended movement penalties associated with aiming down sights or revving up heavy weaponry are properly enforced once again.
Map-specific adjustments are also a major highlight of this update, particularly for the map ctf_medi_evil. Valve has extended the match timer on this map from its previous limit of eight minutes up to a new duration of ten minutes. Additionally, the overtime mechanic has been entirely removed from ctf_medi_evil. The developers also swapped out one of the map's contract objectives, replacing the requirement to score a kill with a pumpkin bomb with a new challenge that tasks players with securing five kills during a single life.
Another map receiving attention in this update is cp_wildcat_event, which has been updated with unspecified general improvements. Furthermore, a specific exploit related to the Pain Train item has been resolved. Previously, players equipped with this item could still capture control points even while transformed into a pumpkin. This particular issue was resolved thanks to a community-submitted fix credited to a user named Skull.
Cosmetic and audio elements have also received a round of polish. The Skeleton Crew cosmetic item has been updated to include a second style option that was mistakenly omitted during its initial release. Additionally, the Autumn Breeze Unusual effect has been modified to address visibility issues that players were experiencing. The update also resolves an audio bug where the sound effects for the Jack-o'-Potion appearing and breaking were erroneously playing globally across the entire map instead of locally.
Finally, the update addresses several minor presentation and localization bugs. Valve has added missing zi_ localization strings and restored absent voiceover lines associated with the One-Eyed Punt! taunt. A visual bug affecting the Scout's "Crazy Legs" animation, which was utilizing an incorrect lightwarp effect, has also been corrected. This visual fix was another contribution from the community, originally created by a user known as Chickenman456. Lastly, the general contract objective to collect a Halloween Pumpkin has been swapped out for a task requiring players to get a kill using a pumpkin bomb.
