Spooky Cute Puzzler Fangtopia Launches On PS5 October 26
Absolutely Games has announced that its cozy puzzle game Fangtopia will launch on the PlayStation 5 on October 26, 2026. Players will construct a whimsical kingdom of monsters and ghouls by placing hexagonal tiles around a central castle, managing resources to expand their territory and climb the leaderboards.
Developer Absolutely Games has announced that its upcoming cozy puzzle game, Fangtopia, is scheduled to launch on the PlayStation 5 on October 26, 2026. Designed as a relaxing experience just in time for the Halloween season, the title allows players to construct their own whimsical kingdom of monsters and ghouls. The core gameplay revolves around placing hexagonal tiles around a central castle of the player's choice, slowly building out a personalized, spooky domain. Because there are no time limits, players can progress at their own pace, carefully planning each move to optimize their layout.
The game features six distinct tile types: fields, towns, mountains, forests, railroads, and rivers. Many tiles contain a mix of two terrain types, and players earn points by matching adjacent tile edges with corresponding terrain. As these pieces connect, they form a cohesive landscape where railways wind through fields, forests border small towns, and yetis look down from misty mountain peaks. To keep the experience stress-free, Absolutely Games has included an undo feature, allowing players to reverse any placement and reconsider their strategy before committing to a spot.
While there is no time pressure, players must manage a limited stack of tiles. To keep building and climb the game's leaderboards, players must earn points to unlock special landmarks. These unique monuments, which range from volatile volcanoes and whirling windmills to frightful fountains and creepy carousels, are added to a growing collection as players progress. Each landmark comes with a specific objective, such as placing a volcano near a field and surrounding it with mountains. Successfully completing these objectives rewards the player with additional tiles, allowing them to expand their kingdom further.
In addition to landmarks, players can track their discoveries in an in-game Stickerbook, which details the playful elements of each building. As the kingdom expands, mysterious portals will emerge in the surrounding oceans. Opening these portals summons various creatures, including gremlins, werewolves, and banshees. Players must find suitable habitats for these creatures within their world. Once housed in their preferred environments, these monsters reward the player with bonus tiles. Players can also interact directly with the creatures after placing them to trigger unique animations or surprises.
Fangtopia offers multiple gameplay modes to suit different playstyles. The standard Fangtopia mode provides a balanced, quicker session featuring the core tile-placement mechanics and creature summoning. For players seeking a more complex challenge, Ghoulish mode introduces rivers as a new tile type, allows players to swap their active tiles, and features larger tile groupings that must be placed together. Ghoulish mode also provides a larger starting tile stack, resulting in longer and more strategic gameplay sessions. The developer teased that additional modes may be revealed in the future.
According to James Brooksby, the CEO of Absolutely Games, the project has evolved significantly from its initial concept into a fully realized experience. The studio designed the game to be a cozy companion for the autumn season, whether played on a television via the PlayStation 5 console or in a more portable format using the PlayStation Portal remote player. With its blend of light strategy, cute monster designs, and forgiving puzzle mechanics, Fangtopia aims to deliver a relaxing, spooky experience when it arrives late next month.
