Dave The Diver Is Wrapping Up Its DLC Plans With An Aquatically Appropriate Subnautica 2 Collab
Mintrocket and Unknown Worlds Entertainment have announced a crossover DLC between Dave the Diver and Subnautica 2. The upcoming expansion will allow the deep-sea diver to travel through a portal to an alien ocean moon, bringing new marine life and a massive Leviathan to the popular diving and restaurant management game.
The ocean-themed indie hit Dave the Diver is preparing to conclude its post-launch content roadmap with a newly announced crossover expansion. Developer Mintrocket has partnered with Unknown Worlds Entertainment to bring the alien depths of Subnautica 2 into Dave's underwater world, marking a thematic pairing that unites two of the most prominent aquatic gaming properties of recent years.
A newly released reveal trailer showcased during The Triple-i Initiative event offers a glimpse of what players can expect from the upcoming crossover. In the footage, the protagonist Dave is shown traveling through a mysterious portal that transports him directly to the alien ocean moon where Subnautica 2 is set. This transition introduces a variety of extraterrestrial marine organisms into Dave's typical diving routine, presenting both new opportunities and significant dangers.
Among the alien wildlife making the jump to Dave the Diver is one of Subnautica 2's massive, Cthulhu-like Leviathans. The trailer indicates that this colossal creature is highly hostile toward Dave, who will likely have to navigate its dangerous attacks while exploring. Given the core gameplay loop of Dave the Diver, which revolves around catching exotic sea creatures to serve as high-end sushi, the giant beast may find itself on the menu if players can successfully overcome it.
Mintrocket's studio director, Jaeho Hwang, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that while both titles share an underwater setting, Subnautica offers a highly distinct perspective on deep-sea exploration. Hwang stated that collaborating with the team behind the sci-fi survival sequel provided a unique opportunity to inject a fresh dynamic into the established Dave the Diver gameplay experience.
Anthony Gallegos, the creative director for Subnautica 2, also shared his thoughts on the joint venture. He described the upcoming expansion as a mutual love letter to both gaming universes, emphasizing that the development teams share a deep admiration for each other's work. Gallegos promised that fans of both franchises are in for a special experience when the content officially launches.
At this time, the developers have not announced whether Dave will make a reciprocal appearance in Subnautica 2. Such a crossover might be complicated by the fact that the sci-fi survival sequel is currently in its early access phase. Subnautica 2 received its most recent major update in August, which introduced a highly requested proximity chat feature to the game's multiplayer mode.
Fans of the Subnautica franchise can look forward to more news soon, as a new developer vlog series is scheduled to debut this month. This upcoming broadcast cycle is expected to provide fresh details regarding the game's progress, potentially including information on the highly anticipated 2.0 early access update. Meanwhile, Dave the Diver players can prepare for one final, extraterrestrial fishing trip before the game's DLC cycle officially draws to a close.
