Team Fortress 2 Update Released

Valve has deployed a fresh update for Team Fortress 2, introducing a series of targeted bug fixes, cosmetic enhancements, and map optimizations. The patch addresses issues with the Beachcomber's Brim and Inglorious Patriot cosmetics, refines zipline mechanics on pl_redwood, and significantly boosts performance on koth_camp_saxton. Players can apply these changes automatically by restarting their game client.

Valve has officially rolled out a new product update for its long-running multiplayer shooter, Team Fortress 2. This latest patch focuses on refining several cosmetic items, correcting visual bugs, and implementing critical gameplay adjustments across multiple community maps. As is standard with Steam-based updates, the changes will be applied automatically to a player's game client upon restarting Team Fortress 2.

Among the cosmetic adjustments, the "Beachcomber's Brim" has received a fix to address an incorrect material issue that was affecting its in-game appearance. Additionally, the "Circuit Breaker" taunt has been updated to resolve a bug where a prop displayed the wrong team color, while also cleaning up orphaned particle effects that were lingering incorrectly during the animation.

The "Inglorious Patriot" cosmetic item has also undergone a series of visual refinements. Valve has adjusted its normal map and polished its color palette to improve overall fidelity. Furthermore, the developers have enhanced the weighting on the bottom pockets of the item to ensure better character model deformation, and they have updated its backpack icon to accurately reflect these visual changes.

Map-specific updates are a major component of this patch, with the payload map pl_redwood receiving several crucial gameplay and technical tweaks. Lighting issues across the map have been resolved to ensure a more consistent visual experience. More significantly, the mechanics surrounding the map's ziplines have been heavily adjusted to offer more fluid movement and responsive control for players navigating the terrain.

Zipline dismount speeds on pl_redwood have been redesigned to scale dynamically, ramping up from 1.1 times the base class speed to 1.8 times. Additionally, the delay before a player can jump to dismount a zipline has been slashed from 0.6 seconds down to 0.25 seconds, while the delay to dismount by crouching has been reduced from 0.3 seconds to a swift 0.1 seconds. These changes are expected to make zipline traversal feel much more immediate and tactical.

The update also addresses specific combat interactions on pl_redwood's ziplines. A bug has been fixed where players who dismounted a zipline mid-air were not properly receiving mini-crits from weapons like the Direct Hit and the Reserve Shooter. Furthermore, Valve has resolved an issue where the B.A.S.E. Jumper's parachute would deploy automatically while a player was actively riding a zipline, preventing unwanted aerial drift.

Finally, the King of the Hill map koth_camp_saxton has received substantial attention, particularly in terms of performance. Valve notes that they have vastly improved optimization on the map, though they are continuing to investigate further performance enhancements. Visual and physical collision adjustments have also been made, including tweaking the log-and-netting walls along the central shore for better definition, fixing minor prop clipping, preventing players from getting stuck on the wood-carved Saxtons, and improving overall clipping boundaries.
